Cascade Christian School student pages for state House in Olympia

Stephanie Knaack, a student at Cascade Christian School in Puyallup, served as a legislative page in Olympia for the Washington State House of Representatives during the third week of session. She was sponsored by her 25th District Rep. Hans Zeiger, R-Puyallup.

Stephanie is the daughter of Michael and Bettina Knaak and is a freshman at Cascade Christian School.

“I am glad Stephanie is interested in a future career in public service. It was evident that she really enjoyed her week in Olympia, and I was glad to have the chance to get to know her,” Zeiger said.

During her service, Stephanie’s responsibilities included delivering message and documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings and the House chamber during floor sessions and attending the Legislature’s page school, where she learned about various legislative actions. She also participated in mock committee hearing, where she sponsored and discussed legislation that would change labeling requirements for foods with harmful additives.

Pages are paid $35 a day while in the program.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14 and 16. Additionally, pages are required to obtain written permission from their parents and school.

Unfortunately, the available page positions for this session are full. Interested students should apply in the fall to be considered for the 2015 legislative session.
