Letter from Olympia

Dear Neighbor,

The 2019 legislative session is underway, and things are already moving along quickly at the Capitol.

This is a budget year, meaning the Legislature is tasked with approving a budget for the 2019-21 biennium. We will also be working on a variety of other topics, including the needs of our mental health system, providing more affordable housing and environmental issues.

With a strengthened majority, Senate Democrats shuffled and added committees this year. Most Republican senators saw reshuffling of their committee assignments. I will be serving as the Ranking Member on two committees: the Housing Stability and Affordability Committee, and State Government, Tribal Relations and Elections Committee. I continue to serve on the Transportation Committee, and I am taking a new assignment on the Human Services, Reentry and Rehabilitation Committee.
